Delhi: The perfect fusion of Modernity and History
- Old Delhi : Step into the narrow streets of Old Delhi, where the past radiates from every nook and cranny. With its vivid colors and distinct aromas, the bustling Chandni Chowk market takes us back to the richness of the Mughal era. One of the biggest mosques in India, Jama Masjid, is an excellent example of Islamic architecture and from its many minarets, one can enjoy sweeping views of the city.
- Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate: The stately India Gate greets us in New Delhi. It is a structure that pays tribute to the warriors who gave their lives in battle. If you drive by the magnificent Rashtrapati Bhavan, which is the President’s official residence, one can see the city’s contemporary governance co-exist with its colonial past.
- Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar : The Qutub Minar complex, is the pinnacle of Indo-Islamic building design. Close by is Humayun’s Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage site. These two structures enthral visitors with its Mughal heritage and beautiful gardens. These monuments tell stories of dynasties and empires that shaped the nation’s capital as we know it today.
Agra: Timeless Elegance in the Shadow of the Taj
- Taj Mahal: At the break of dawn, one can watch the dreamlike splendour of this masterwork in white marble come to life. The Taj Mahal, erected by Emperor Shah Jahan as a tribute to his wife Mumtaz Mahal, is a timeless symbol of love and masterful architecture.
- Agra Fort: The Agra Fort, a red sandstone citadel that was once the centre of Mughal power, is located near the Taj Mahal. With its elaborate palaces, audience halls, and breathtaking views of the Taj Mahal from the fort’s walls, the Agra Fort is a part of Agra’s past.
- UNESCO World Heritage Site Fatehpur Sikri: One can take a quick trip from Agra to Fatehpur Sikri. Built by Emperor Akbar, this abandoned city, with its imposing Buland Darwaza and elaborate palaces, offers an intriguing look at Mughal architecture and urban planning.
Jaipur: Land of Regal Splendor
- Hawa Mahal: Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, is where our Golden Triangle adventure enters the world of royalty and history. With its intricate network of windows, Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of Winds, is an architectural wonder that was built to let royal ladies watch street celebrations while staying out of sight.
- Starry Wonders of Jantar Mantar and City Palace – With its stunning fusion of Mughal and Rajput design, the City Palace provides a window into Jaipur’s former royal glory. Jantar Mantar, which is an observatory and houses an enormous astronomical equipment built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, is located next to the palace.
- Amber Fort: Amber Fort appears to the common man as a fortification that is straight out of a fairy tale. Perched atop a hill, Amber is a typical Rajput stronghold including the elaborate mirror work of Sheesh Mahal, the artistic splendour of Diwan-i-Khas, and the expansive vistas from the fort.
